Earth Birth International Women's Health Collective will be hosting our first ever International Midwifery Symposium in Uganda September 10th-17th, 2011. www.earth-birth.com

Earth Birth is an organization run by midwives for the purpose of reducing perinatal mortality in areas affected by war. Our clinic in Atiak, Uganda is run jointly by traditional midwives and nurse midwives, and serves women from Uganda, Sudan and Congo. One of our core values is cross cultural dialogue and skill sharing to build best practices. Many of our midwives are illiterate and cannot pick up a book on midwifery, but have generations of knowledge to share- and can benefit greatly from interactions with other midwives.

For this reason, we are inviting our extended midwifery community from across the globe to join us for a week of living in community on our land, workshops, skill sharing, dialogue, storytelling, food, dance and birth.

Attached is a flyer for the event. Speakers TBA. Please spread the word widely to midwifery communities that you are part of. The conference is open to midwives and birth attendants from all over the world. If the conference fee is not realistic to your budget, please speak to us about work study agreements and scholarships for plane fare.

We hope to see you in Uganda this fall!
