Reporting to the Manager, Child Birth Care Team, the Midwife is responsible for providing safe, flexible, maternity care to childbearing women and their families from conception, through pregnancy, labour, birth and the six week postpartum period. Midwifery care is woman and family centred in keeping with the philosophy of the profession of Midwifery and the core values of the IWK. The Midwife provides primary maternity care, including labour and birth care, to women in a variety of settings including the client’s home, community clinics, and IWK. The Midwife works collaboratively with all professionals and function as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team providing safe, effective and comprehensive maternity care. The Midwife facilitates continuity of access to care beyond the childbearing year, when necessary, through communication with other care providers or services.
