Start Date:

July or August, 2011.

About our practice:

Access Midwifery & Family Care is a busy practice that includes 4 Midwives and 2 Nurse Practitioners. All midwives work full time (4-5 due dates per month) with two months holiday per year and regular time off-call. The locum will be working in a shared care model. We strongly believe in supporting one another with home birth back-up, break relief for long labours, and regular chart and peer reviews.

Access Midwifery & Family Care works with diverse clients including women with socially complex lives who have multiple barriers to accessing health care. About 30% of our clientele face challenges including substance use, street-involvement, insecure housing, mental health concerns, and abuse. Privileges are at Victoria General Hospital, a tertiary care facility with 24 hour obstetrical services and a Level 3 NICU. We are a teaching practice and regularly have midwifery, nursing, and NP students.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for working with women with socially complex lives.
  • Preferably 1+ year clinical midwifery experience but will consider new graduates with other related experience. Mentorship provided for new grads.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Please see our website www.accessmidwifery.ca for practitioner bios and a more complete description of our practice. Send expressions of interest and CVs to nelson@accessmidwifery.ca by February 1, 2011.
