MIDWIFERY INSTRUCTOR

Classification:  Instructor

Two Full-Time Term Positions:  ASAP to July 2014

The University College of the North (UCN) is proud to hold the mandate for Midwifery education in the province and is currently offering a Bachelor of Midwifery program in Winnipeg.  Some travel throughout the province will be required.

UCN is open and amenable to all employment scenarios and will negotiate secondments and/or establish cross appointments for those applicants who are currently employed by a Regional Health Authority.

The Position:  University College of the North is seeking instructors to teach in the Bachelor of Midwifery Program located in Winnipeg. The incumbents will facilitate the students’ learning of the core midwifery curriculum and in particular the Midwifery Care and Practice courses.

Qualifications:  The successful candidates will be Registered Midwives and will be eligible to be registered with the College of Midwives of Manitoba.  The successful candidates will have a minimum of four years’ experience as practicing midwives and an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders. The ability to examine and critically analyze historical and contemporary topics directly related to the role of midwives locally, provincially, nationally and globally. Strong communication skills (both oral and written), managing for results and change, as well as strong interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, leadership, problem-solving, and computer skills are required.

Applicants are asked to provide a cover letter, resume, references, and copies of transcripts with their application.

Representative Workforce (formerly employment equity) is a factor in the selection process.  Applicants are invited to indicate in their covering letter or resume if they are from any of the following groups: Aboriginal people, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, women and men in non-traditional roles.  All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

Salary: Negotiable, commensurate with education and experience. 

Educational Supplement:  Masters Degree $2,650 per annum; Ph.D. $5,300 per annum

Relocation Expenses for successful applications will be reimbursed.
